Peterborough United goalkeeper Joe Lewis has hinted he would be happy to sign a new contract at Posh if both parties can agree terms!

Lewis said: “My agent is currently in talks with the club. It`s early stages at the moment, but if the terms are acceptable to me and the club then I will stay.

“I`m at a club where the manager has a lot of faith in both his goalkeepers. I have had to work hard to get back in the side and rightly so as Paul Jones has had a good season.”

Lewis hadn`t featured for Posh since picking up a serious knee injury in the League One Play-Off semi-final first leg at MK Dons last season, but made a surprise return on Saturday against mid-table Championship rivals Barnsley.

Despite conceding four goals against Barnsley, Lewis played well and had no chance with any of the goals following two deflected shots and two quality long range efforts which no keeper would`ve stopped.

Lewis is out of contract at the end of the season and was expected to leave London Road either during the January transfer window or at the end of the season. Premiership team QPR are the latest team rumoured to be interested in his services, but many teams have been “interested” in him but have not put a bid in for him.

Lewis is a good keeper and will be a hard player to replace should he leave. Paul Jones has come in this season on a free transfer and done a reasonable job, but he only signed a twelve month contract, so he could also up sticks and leave at the end of the season should Posh not agree terms for an extension with him!

If both keepers were to leave London Road at the end of the season, it would leave Posh with just one goalkeeper – youngster Joe Day who is currently on loan at non-League Alfreton Town!
