Last gasp Yeo

Simon Yeo scored an 86th minute winner to earn 10 man Peterborough United a second consecutive league win against Boston last night.

It was a different sort of performance for POSH after the free flowing attacking demolition of Bristol City at the weekend.

Manager Keith Alexander kept the front three of Yeo, Danny Crow and Lloyd Opara in effect with Dean Holden and Richard Butcher in the centre of the park.

It was a system that took its time to get going away from home and caused great frustration for Opara as he was buffeted by the two large home centre backs.

In a first half of few chances it was Guy Branston whose header from a set piece was the best opportunity for POSH, but a 0-0 half time score was not unexpected!

After the break Opara’s patience snapped and he reacted to a challenge when trying to lever the defender off his body.

Mark Albrighton is rumoured to have ‘done a Ronaldo’ by smiling as he saw Opara red carded after he had fallen to the floor holding his face. Sad if true.

Boston then had their best spell of pressure but a couple of Mark Tyler saves ensured the status quo. In fact it had started to look like both sides would settle for a point each.

But no-one had told sub Jude Stirling that.

He picked up the ball deep in his own territory before racing the length of the field. The ball bobbled off him at this point but thankfully fell to Yeo who managed to squeeze the ball home.

POSH managed to negotiate the final four minutes (plus 3 minutes stoppage time) and another crucial three points were secured.

‘The POSH are going up’ roared the away contingent…Early days? without doubt. But these success starved fans wouldn’t be underserving of a promotion season.

Manager Rating
Keith Alexander seems to have settled quickly on his best eleven and you suspect that despite Opara coming up for a ban, having been sent off, that not much will change in the weekends fixture.
