With an East Anglian derby coming up, how did the teams fare last time they met in The Championship?

It was 2 seasons ago that Ipswich travelled to Peterborough for a league meeting between the two clubs.

At that point, Ipswich were heading away from relegation and would soon be within touching distance of the play-offs.

Both teams were desperate for points for different reasons, but how did the match turn out?

On a cold Tuesday night in February 2010, Posh, managed by their 3rd manager of the season in Jim Gannon, faced a resurgent Ipswich Town.

Ipswich got off to a flier taking the lead after only 9 minutes through a Daryl Murphy header. However, despite having the better of the first half, no further goals came in the first half.

Peterborough boss Jim Gannon told local BBC radio ‘I just reminded them at the break about what we have been working on and we played my way after the break.’

Whatever he did say at the break certainly did the trick!

Debutant Liam Dickinson scored within two minutes of the restart with a curling free-kick.

Lee Frecklington added a second from just inside the box on 63 minutes before a powerful Craig Morgan header, 5 minutes from time, confimed all 3 points would be heading Posh’s way.

Roy Keane was none too pleased with his teams second half performance confirming to the BBC ‘There is no hiding place. In any walk of life you have got to show some character and we had none.’

I’m sure Posh would love the same outcome this weekend.
