LAST SEASON
Rovers started the season off poorly picking up just one point in the opening month from their five League matches. They found themselves bottom of the table and struggled for all of the season.
The former Premier League Champions ended up finishing 22nd in the Championship suffering their second relegation under owners Venky`s. Their relegation was confirmed five years to the day they were relegated from the Premier League!
Rovers actually finished level on points with Nottingham Forest who had slightly better goal difference (-10) compared to Rovers (-12).
THE MANAGER – TONY MOWBRAY
Mowbray is a veteran of over 500 appearances for just three different clubs in an 18-year playing career.
The 53-year-old has gone on to manage seven different clubs including the three clubs he played for (Middlesbrough, Celtic and Ipswich Town).
He has achieved one title with West Bromwich Albion in the 2007/2008 season when they won the Championship.
Mowbray last managed in League One at Coventry City. He took over the Sky Blues hotseat in March 2015 helping them to move away from the relegation places with a final day win at Crawley Town.
Just over a year later and he was looking for another job when a string of results without a win saw him lose his job at the end of September 2016.
In February this year, Mowbray took over at Ewood Park from Owen Coyle and has seen his Rovers side lose just three of their 15 matches but it wasn`t enough to save them from relegation to League One.
VISITING THE GROUND?
Ewood Park has three large stands built during the 1990’s. The corners are open with a huge screen at one corner by the away end. There is also an electric scoreboard at the Bryan Douglas Darwen End of the ground which holds the away fans. Any Posh fans who regularly sit in the Old North Stand will feel at home as the spacing between the rows of seats leaves a lot to be desired!
The Riverside is the only undeveloped stand, running down one side of the pitch. This is a smaller single tiered stand and looks older than what it actually is having been opened in 1988.
There are various private car parks available in the area around Ewood Park with most charging the usual £5. Be warned though that the roads immediately around Ewood Park are closed for 30 minutes after the game for health and safety reasons.
The nearest railway station is Mill Hill which is around a 15 minute walk away from Ewood Park. It is served by trains from Blackburn with the journey only taking few minutes. Blackburn station itself is a couple of miles from the ground and a good 25-30 minute walk.
