Massive Month of March

With just 14 matches remaining this season for Posh, can they reach the 50 point target initially set by boss Darren Ferguson which should spell safety by the end of March?

Posh have eight of those games in March, five of which are at home, and March is usually a good month for Posh going on previous seasons under Fergie.

During last seasons promotion campaign, Posh won four and drew one out of six games.

Excluding the last disastrous Championship campaing by Posh, the two seasons prior to that saw Posh promoted from Leagues One and Two.

During 2008/09 in League One, Posh won all six matches!

In 2007/08 in League Two, Posh were facing a fixture list comprising eight matches, just like this season. During that season though, Posh remained unbeaten in March winning six of the games and drawing the other two.

If Posh can reproduce those sort of results, it should mean we reach the 50 point mark which should be enough to retain our Championship status.

It’ll be tough though as Posh face a lot of teams challenging for the play-offs. The games in March are:

03-Mar @ Crystal Palace
06-Mar v Millwall
10-Mar v Blackpool
17-Mar @ Ipswich Town
20-Mar v Reading
24-Mar @ Barnsley
27-Mar v West Ham United
31-Mar v Leicester City

If Posh can win four of these games, they will reach the 50 point mark. They are looking for twelve points to reach that total.

Influential midfielder George Boyd believes it is achievable: ‘We`ve got a lot of games in a short space of time and we need to try and go on a run.

‘We have done well at this stage of previous seasons and I think that`s because we thrive on the pressure of knowing we have to get results.

‘We`re not chasing promotion this season but staying in the Championship is just as big.

‘The gaffer has always said that 50 points is the target and hopefully we can get there by the end of March.

‘We have a few games coming up against teams close to us in the table and we need to get results in them.’
