New Peterborough United manager Grant McCann hasn’t wasted any time in making his first signing for the club.

Hayden White becomes Grant McCanns first signing as a manager

Right-back Hayden White has signed for Posh after his contract at relegated Championship Bolton Wanderers finished at the end of this season.

The 21-year-old actually played against Posh on the last day of this season as he completed a loan spell at Blackpool. Despite the scoreline, White actually impressed with his no-nonsense display as he battled away well and caused problem for Posh on his forward forages. The 6 foot 1 inch defender has plenty of speed and strength and has attributes that will come in handy at Posh.

White came through the youth ranks at Sheffield Wednesday before signing for Bolton Wanderers on 24th June 2013 after turning down a professional contract at the Owls. He made his professional debut against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on 28th January 2014, coming on as a substitute for the injured Tim Ream in the fifth minute.

He made his first start for Bolton in their one-nil defeat to Leicester City on 22nd April 2014 and made his first appearance of the 2014-15 Championship season coming on as a second half stoppage time substitute for the injured Kevin McNaughton in a 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough in August 2014. That was to be his only appearance for Bolton in that season and it turned out to be his last appearance for the club as he spent the rest of his time going on loans.

His first loan deal was at Carlisle United when he joined them on an emergency loan deal on 18th September 2014. On 18th October 2014, White extended his loan until 15th November 2014. His loan deal was cut short through suspension but he soon signed on loan for another club, this time for Bury. He stayed at the Shakers until the conclusion of his loan in January 2015 when he joined Notts County for the rest of the season. However, he was recalled by Bolton Wanderers early!

This season, White joined Blackpool on loan from 19th October 2015 until January 2016. He was named in the Football League Team of the Week in the first week he was with Blackpool! He then went on to score his first goal for the Tangerines in a two-nil win over Crewe Alexandria in just his second appearance. He remained at Blackpool until the end of this season making 29 appearances and which culminated in that 5-1 defeat at the hands of Posh.

White’s contract at Bolton comes to an end at the end of June but has agreed to sign for Posh and will provide competition for Michael Smith at right-back.

Welcome to Posh Hayden!
