Mystery surrounds the future of David Ball at Peterborough United.

Ball was due to link up with League One Brentford on Tuesday for his first training session with them, but Posh pulled the plug on the deal late on Monday.

Brentford boss Uwe Rosler said: ‘We thought we had the deal in place but we received a call on Monday night saying the move was off.

‘We were surprised, as was the player, who was due to train with us on Tuesday morning.

‘But we are moving on now. Our intention is to bring a striker in before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.’

The reason behind the sudden collapse of the loan deal is still a mystery to all outside the walls of London Road.

Posh did see the departure of loanee Josh Thompson on Monday when he was recalled by parent club Celtic. He has since signed on loan at League One basement team Chesterfield.

With a number of players still out injured and with Thompson departing, it could just be to bolster the squad or it could be a better deal has come along!
