Peterborough United midfielder Joe Newell has been rewarded for his progress and recent first team performances by agreeing a new four and a half year contract.

Newell, 18, graduated from the clubs youth ranks and is an inspiration to the batch of players coming up from the youth-team set-up who are expected to sign professional contracts soon.

Newell was delighted to sign a new contract as he told the clubs website: ‘I found out about it last week and had no hesitation about signing. I am delighted. It gives me a bit of security, but I also know that I have to continue to work hard in training.

‘The manager has shown a lot of faith in me and that is fantastic, I just want to repay that faith now. The senior lads in the squad have really helped my game.

‘I speak to Tommy Rowe, Grant McCann and George Boyd all of the time about my game and they have given me great advice as I adapt to the new position. I am really enjoying my football at the moment, particularly the way we play,’.

Youth team players such as Jaanai Gordon-Hutton, Kgosi Ntlhe, Jacob Joyce and Aaron Wickham are all expected to sign professional contracts over the coming months as they hope to follow in Newells footsteps.
