Posh 2 Boro 2

Mark Cooper may still be waiting for his first win as Posh manager but he`ll be more than happy with his side after they mounted a spirited fight back to claim a share of the spoils against Middlesbrough.

It may be a familiar return, one point in six, but I have the feeling that better things are only around the corner as we seek to climb out of our current predicament whereby we remain in the relegation places.

For the fixture Cooper installed the giant Exodus Geohaghon at the heart of his defence with many of us anticipating that the ex-Kettering man may have to wait a couple of weeks to get fit enough for the Championship, however we suspect it may well have been a case of better the devil you know as far as Cooper was concerned.

The first half saw the visitors, coached by Gordon Strachan, have the better of the action and they got their reward on twenty-eight minutes when the on loan Dave Kitson scored from eighteen yards after Joe Lewis had saved a shot from Arca,

In truth although Middlesbrough had endured the better of the opening exchanges the goal came slightly against the run of play with Posh pushing on well.

Before Posh got on level terms in the fifty-fourth minute, it`s safe to say that Middlesbrough could have been out of sight if Leroy Lita had his shooting boots on.

However, the goal that put us level was a good one. George Boyd controlled the ball neatly and with his second touch scored his eleventh goal of the season, surely a Scottish cap beckons for this man!

Sadly a failing from the Ferguson era crept in as Posh, once again this season, failed to hold on to what they had earned with Kitson doubling his tally for Middlesbrough some four minutes later.

Cooper threw on Charlie Lee and Shaun Batt on sixty and sixty-seven minutes respectively and it was to be Batt that was to bring the London Road crowd to their feet just nine minutes after coming on.

Collecting a Boyd header, some twenty-two yards out, there seemed very little danger but Batt twisted and turned and in one fell movement hit a glorious shot that Jones couldn`t keep out.

With the game delicately balanced at 2-2 you expected one of the two sides to go on and snatch victory and if I were to be honest it could have been Middlesbrough who had what appeared to be a clear-cut penalty turned down after an incident involving Mclean and St Ledger.

Could that be a turning point in our season? Let`s hope so!
