Posh climb up to third place in League One after a six goal thriller with Crewe Alexandra!

Firstly, my apologies for the late posting of the match report, circumstances contrived to prevent me from posting it last night, who ever heard of a power-cut in 2009?

For the fixture Darren Ferguson, without the suspended Craig Morgan, shuffled his defence drafting in Daniel Blanchett at left back and moving Charlie Lee to partner Gabriel Zakuani in the middle.

At a less than half full London Road, despite the enticement of reduced admission prices, it was to be our visitors that were to get the scoring underway. With just over a minute gone on the clock Pope, who we`d posted as the away player to watch, scored and we all began to wonder if the Tuesday night poor result hoodoo was about to strike again.

Especially when the Crewe keeper, Tomlinson, started to pull off save after save from the likes of Boyd, Mackail-Smith and McLean. Half time came and with Crewe still hanging on to that slender lead, you knew that Posh would have to up the ante in the second half and that is exactly what they did.

Indeed, a sparkling six minute spell saw three goals scored. In the fiftieth minute Boyd, who had a splendid goal, equalised and when , three minutes later, McLean put us 2-1 up you thought it`d be the start of a demolition job with Posh trying to emulate Northampton`s 5-1 demolition of Crewe on Saturday.

But it didn`t work out like that, three minutes after we`d took the lead that man Pope struck again to drag Crewe level and fears of two more dropped points began to surface. Thankfully, the spirit in the Posh camp saw a revival in fortunes and all credit to the lads for putting on a grandstand finish.

In the sixty-eighth minute Keates put Posh ahead again and Crewe just couldn`t summon the response their manager wanted. With three minutes to go Boyd capped a fine display with his second goal of the night to leave us 4-2 victors and give us the perfect boost before we travel to Huddersfield this weekend.

The news filtered through that MK Dons had surprisingly lost 2-1 at home to Leyton Orient and it was time for a drink. We`re one point behind second place MK Dons, with top of the table Leicester City someway in the distance, could we really move into an automatic promotion place with a good result at Huddersfield?
