Posh – Batt(s) the Way!

We`ve always said that given the chance there might be somebody on the fringe of the first team squad that might just make the best of san opportunity that comes his way.

Well Shaun Batt is fast giving Darren Ferguson a headache with regards to selection policy for his Championship opener at Derby.

Batt is having a splendid pre-season and was the best player on the park, by the proverbial country mile, at Oxford on Saturday when Peterborough won 3-0.

Indeed, it`s looking more and more like it that if Craig Mackail-Smith doesn`t successfully come through his re-introduction to first team football against Sunderland on Tuesday evening then Shaun may well be the man to partner Aaron Maclean up front.

Looking ahead to the possibility, Shaun has remarked to the local media,

‘It is unfortunate that Craig has been injured, but it has given me a chance to stake a claim and hopefully I have done enough to be considered.”

‘There are always things that can be improved upon, but I’m happy to have scored in the last two games and I could probably have had more at Oxford.”

‘If I didn’t think I was capable of playing at Championship level, I wouldn’t be here and wouldn’t waste the manager’s time.”

‘I definitely feel I can do it and if I get the nod I will go out and give it my all.”

Could, in the face of adversity, something promising be about to arrive?
