After the heavy defeat up at Scunthorpe on Tuesday evening there`s no doubt that Jim Gannon had a lot of thinking to do.

Our recent run whereby there was faint hope of a great escape has now gone off the rails and consecutive defeats once again have the ‘Fat Lady` clearing her throat ready to bid us farewell from the Championship.

However, although the fate of our club, in he Championship, appears all but settled, the fate of Jim Gannon has now been resolved.

Having met with Darragh MacAnthony, Jim had promised to give a decision on his future sometime this week but Jim had also been reticent that it was by no means certain that he`d take the job.

On a statement issued on the official site

“I am not driven by financial gain or a mechanical professional drive.

“I always promised myself that I would strike a balance in my professional and personal life.”

Naturally, his decision has been picked up by various news agencies and one station, BBC East, gives a far geater insight into just why Jim felt he didn`t want to remain at London Road, quoting him as having said,

“I had a second opportunity to sit down with the family this weekend and reflect.”

“You have to sleep on things and chat them over and it`s a very difficult decision either way.”

“Given that my partner is pregnant and expecting our second baby in July, the need for stability, security and happiness becomes increasingly important to me.”

“I have become a devoted family man over the last few years and the separation from my family over the last season has created a big void in my happiness and contentment.”

Jim will though be remaining for the remainder of the season and has stated his priorities, commenting,

“I still have an important job to do for the remainder of the season in showing the players and the club are much more capable than previously shown.”

“There is valuable work to be done over the coming months and we want to gain, collect and learn from these experiences to ensure the successful return to Championship football for Peterborough United.”

So, Ferguson, Cooper, Gannon! Whose next for the swish leather chair at London Road?
