Posh – Life Is Not Always a Bed of Roses?

A defeat is always hard to take and when you`re up against a high-flying side who are eager to redeem themselves after being spanked 5-1 in their previous match you know that you face a tough task.

Even more so when you`re marooned at the bottom of the table and the realisation is starting to sink in that after back-to-back promotion winning seasons it`s almost inevitable that you`re going to suffer the heartache that relegation brings.

But, with a new gaffer in charge, and a gaffer whose prepared to warn those who follow the club that the most important thing is to seek improvement as he believes survival is just too much of an ask, there is a ray of light.

It hasn`t taken Jim Gannon long to realise that those players brought in by Mark Cooper are not as good as the ones that were already here. A perfect example being, in our opinion, resting our scoring hopes on the shoulders of a striker that can`t secure a starting place in a side one division below us when we all know the pairing from the last two years have the bullets to see us make our mark in this division.

So therefore we have to accept Jim`s refreshing honesty when he simply implied after the defeat at Cardiff that,

“We didn`t show enough quality.”

Maybe our back-to-back promotion campaigns were the pinnacle as far as the current squad could ever achieve, perhaps any dreams of Premier League status were pie-in-the-sky and perhaps we are due a fall or two in this topsy-turvey world of football but things could be a whole lot worse.

We could be Portsmouth!
