With Southend United the visitors, those fortunate to be able to attend the reserve fixture would have been delighted to see a strong Posh eleven hit the Essex boys for five.

Dean Keates opened the scoring but his strike was the solitary goal in the first half as Southend held firm.

However, after the break, the floodgates opened with two further goals from Keates, giving him a hat trick, a goal from Edward Adjei and another from Shaun Batt.

Also playing, and no doubt proud of being part of a defence that kept a clean sheet was Elliot Omuzusi.

Billed as the last chance for him to secure a contract, we await a decision from Darren Ferguson.

Posh: McKeown, Omuzusi, Day (Pierginni), Fergurson (Austin), Gaugharan, Lee, Green (McCrae), Rowe, Adjei, Batt, Keates.
