Posh – The Gilt Edged Sword?

One of the fears that looms dark in my mindset is that, although we`re a newly promoted side, this season could turn into a promotion or but scenario.

With our club buoyed by Darragh MacAnthony`s cash, ambition is running high. Whereas, normally, a newly promoted team would be looking to consolidate in their first season in a new division, we`re more ambitious than that, like our rivals from up the road, MK Dons, we`re striving to take giant steps and it worries me what would happen if we were to fail.

Currently, our club has some prized possessions, both on and off the pitch.

On the pitch, the likes of Craig Mackail-Smith and Aaron McLean are sought after strikers and I wonder if our promotion bid were to flounder would it be impossible to ignore, or dismiss, any bids that were forthcoming.

Off the pitch, it`s no secret that our manager, Darren Ferguson, is much sought after. What he has done in the relative short time he has been with us has signalled to the ‘bigger` clubs that he has perhaps inherited a substantial amount of the managerial talent his father has.

Would we, or indeed would Darren, be prepared to hold firm and ignore any likely offers for his services?

I`ve posed two questions, both of which would have major consequences for our club, I guess both are jus the hazards of being an up-and-coming club rather than an also-ran!
