Venue: London Road
Date: 30th July, 2014
Kick-off: 7:45pm

Posh v Charlton

Posh face their final pre-season challenge at London Road as they come up against a Championship side for the third time in pre-season.

After drawing 2-2 with Wolves and then beating Brighton 2-1, Posh will be looking to maintain their unbeaten pre-season as Charlton Athletic head up the A1.

Posh have also beaten Portuguese side SC Freamunde (4-2) and non-League Barnet (1-0) this pre-season while Bobby Olejnik, Michael Richens and Tom Conlon joined a very youthful Posh side last night [Tuesday] to defeat Daventry Town 2-1 to win the Maunsell Cup.

Darren Ferguson is looking for the majority of players to play the full 90 minutes against the Addicks with another 90 minutes in the next pre-season match away at Luton Town on Saturday.

Two players who won`t feature in either match is Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and newcomer Erhun Oztumer who are both struggling with injuries. The pair will be hoping they have recovered in time when Posh complete their pre-season next Tuesday when a Posh XI will travel down the A1 to play St Neots.

It is expected the starting line-up for the Addicks match will be different to the one that started against Brighton on Saturday which means the likes of Michael Smith, Kenny McEvoy, Ben Alnwick and youngster Ollie Lutto, who played at left-back in the second-half against Brighton, could all start the match.

Striker Kyle Vassell, who is outscoring Britt Assombalonga this pre-season, will be hoping to persuade Darren Ferguson that he deserves a starting place come the start of the season. He has looked very sharp in pre-season and looks a completely different player to the one Posh fans saw last season. If Vassell starts tonight, it is expected he will be partnered up front once again by Tyrone Barnett.

The Addicks have only played two matches on British soil in pre-season. They lost the first one to Ebbsfleet United (1-0) but won the second one, which was played behind closed doors last Saturday. Johann Gudmundsson struck the only goal of the game against Southend United; it was his first goal for the club. The Southend match was the first time in pre-season that manager Bob Peeters had name a team made up entirely of first team players.

A pre-season tour of Spain saw the Addicks face a Gibraltar XI and Atlético Clube de Portugal winning 5-1 and 2-0 respectively.

The Addicks are expecting the clash with Posh to be their toughest of the pre-season yet. Peeters is expected bring his strongest squad to London Road but will be casting his eye over the whole squad ahead of their Championship opener.
