And so we embark on an Easter programme that will see us entertain Cheltenham Town on Good Friday and then, on Easter Monday, travel to south London to play promotion rivals Millwall.
Come Monday evening we`ll have a fierier idea of exactly where we are with regards to our chances of automatic promotion. Two wins would go a long way to securing that dream.
But that`s enough of looking too far ahead. We`re in our current good position by taking one game at a time so it would be churlish to betray that methodology and look too far ahead.
The visit of relegation threatened Cheltenham should, on paper, be the easier of the two fixtures but Martin ‘Mad-Dog` Allen will bring his team to London Road desperate to grab at least a point to fend off the notion that relegation is a certainty.
It promises to be a great atmosphere at London Road with Cheltenham vacating the ‘Moys End` to enable as many of the Posh support as possible to cheer their side on to victory. If we can get all four sides of the ground bouncing then we`re halfway there.
Posh enter the game without the injured defensive duo of Tom Williams (knee ligament damage) and Craig Morgan (toe) but with Charlie Lee in the form of his life alongside Gabriel Zakuani, Morgan`s absence will not be that important. As far as Tom Williams` injury goes, it gives Shane Blackett the chance to shine at left back after the unfortunate defender was forced to miss large portions of the season with shoulder dislocations.
Elsewhere the remainder of the side picks itself with the attacking threat likely to come from McLean and Mackail-Smith prompted by Boyd, Whelpdale, Keates and Coutts supplying the thrust from midfield.
As for Cheltenham, they`re living in troubled times.
Martin Allen has presided over a turbulent time which has resulted in many of his senior players leaving with youth being given it`s chance.
Speaking about the situation the former West Ham and QPR player had this to say,
‘I will keep playing the youngsters this season as I want to start preparing them for the future. In the summer we will rely on trialists, free transfers and others who have been released.
‘I wouldn’t say it was my team because I have not been able to make my mark on this yet. It’s been very frustrating, not being able to do what I have wanted to do.
‘The players have given maximum effort and I can’t knock them, but I haven’t been able to get it together yet and it won’t happen until the summer.
‘Youth is going to have to be the way forward.’
A very commendable ideology.
So here at Vital Posh how do we see it turning out? Ideally we`d get an early goal but nerves could well play a part and the first thirty minutes could be a little messy before Posh finally get in their stride and emerge victorious by two clear goals and then it`s on to the ‘New Den` where our main rivals for promotion await.
