The man in charge of the Sky Bet League One match between Peterborough United and Colchester United is JEREMY SIMPSON.

Jeremy Simpson

Posh will remember Lancashire-based referee Jeremy Simpson well from the last time he refereed them. That came in October this season when Posh lost at lowly Crewe Alexandra but they also had Michael Bostwick and Jack Baldwin sent off! Posh did successfully appeal Bostwick`s red card but that was no help after losing the match after going down to 10-men!

Prior to the Crewe match, Simpson, who is in just his third season as a football league referee, had refereed Posh on two other occasions. Both of these matches came last season when Posh and Port Vale battled out an end of season meaningless match that ended goalless with the other match finishing in a 5-0 victory for Posh at Tranmere. The goals were spread throughout the team with Tommy Rowe, Tyrone Barnett and a Grant McCann penalty giving Posh a 3-0 half-time lead before Britt Assombalonga and Mark Little completed the scoring.

Colchester have had Simpson referee two of their matches with both of them ending in draws. The first encounter came two seasons ago when the drew 2-2 at Shrewsbury being drawing 1-1 last season at home to Walsall.

So far this season, Simpson has refereed 18 matches, issuing 62 yellow cards and seven red cards.

The last match he officiated came on Boxing Day when Crewe Alexandra went away from Oldham Athletic with a 2-1 victory. One yellow card and one red card were shown in this match with both cards going to Alex players. Former Posh striker Nicky Ajose scored both the goals for Alex.

His statistics for the last few seasons are:

2014/15 – 18 matches – 8 home wins – 9 away wins – 1 draws
2013/14 – 33 matches – 11 home wins – 13 away wins – 9 draws
2012/13 – 26 matches – 8 home wins – 6 away wins – 12 draws

His matches involving Posh or Colchester to date:

Posh – 3 matches – 1 win – 1 draw – 1 defeat
Colchester – 2 matches – 0 wins – 2 draws – 0 defeats

Card Tally For Last Few Seasons:

2014/15 – Games 18 – Yellow 62 – Red 7
2013/14 – Games 33 – Yellow 90 – Red 5
2012/13 – Games 26 – Yellow 81 – Red 5

The assistant referees for this match will be Wayne Porter and Paul Thompson. The fourth official is Steven Meredith.
