The man in charge of the Sky Bet EFL League One match between Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United is EDDIE ILDERTON.

Eddie Ilderton

Tyne and Wear based referee Eddie Ilderton will be the man in the middle for the latest Posh match at League One leaders Wigan Athletic.

The 47-year-old has officiated Posh on 10 previous occasions stretching back to the 2004/2005 season when Posh travelled to Wales to face Wrexham. Posh drew one-all with Callum Willock scoring in the 69th minute. Two yellow cards were shown during that match with both sides picking up one card each.

Posh have only won 20% of their matches with Ilderton as the man in the middle while losing five of them including the last Posh match Ilderton refereed. That was in April last year when Posh lost two-one at the ABAX Stadium to Fleetwood Town. Craig Mackail-Smith scored the only Posh goal of the game while the Cod Army picked up both yellow cards of the game.

Wigan have had more success with Ilderton in charge with their last two matches ending in a three-all draw at Colchester United back in March 2016 and a two-nil victory at local rivals Oldham Athletic in August this season. Ivan Toney and Michael Jacobs scored the goals inside the first 16 minutes of the match for Wigan who also picked up three of the five yellow cards shown during the match.

So far this season, Ilderton has officiated 15 matches, dishing out 44 yellow cards and 6 red cards!

His last match came on the last weekend of last year in the League One clash between Bradford City and Oxford United. Two yellow cards were shown during that match which the Bantams won three-two but the home side were reduced to 10-men in the 93rd minute when striker Charlie Wyke received his marching orders.

The assistant referees for this match will be Helen Byrne and Marvyn Amphlett. The fourth official is Joseph Johnson.
