Peterborough United have lost the services of their main keeper from last season…Paul Jones.

Jones has signed a two-year deal for newly promoted League One outfit Crawley Town. That’s the second Posh keeper to sign for another team inside a week after Joe Lewis left to join Cardiff City!

The 25-year-old couldn’t agree terms for a new contract at Posh but has not had problems agreeing a deal with the Red Devils.

Jones had to bide his time at Posh before seizing his chance in the 2010/2011 League One Play-Off semi-final at MK Dons after Joe Lewis departed at half time with a broken kneecap.

He was a virtual ever-present last season playing in 37 games but by the end of the season, many fans were losing patience with him after a number of blunders adding to his poor distribution.

Jones career started at Leyton Orient before joining Conference side Exeter City. He enjoyed good times at City when he became the first goalkeeper to save a penalty at Wembley in the 2007 Conference play-off final. Twelve months later, he kept a clean sheet in the final as Exeter returned to the Football League.

After making over 150 appearances for Exeter, he joined Posh on-loan in January 2011.

After signing for Crawley, Jones said: ‘I have followed the club’s success over the last two years and it didn’t take me long to decide I wanted to be part of an ambitious club like Crawley.

‘It’s a great set-up with Steve Coppell and Sean O’Driscoll involved and I can’t wait to get started in pre-season in July.’

With Jones and Lewis both departing London Road, Posh are now on the look-out for at least one goalkeeper. Youngster Joe Day is still on the books at Posh but boss Darren Ferguson is looking to send the young keeper out on loan again to pick up some vital first team experience.

Posh have put a bid in for an unnamed goalkeeper and are awaiting the response from the club concerned.
