Vital Posh looks at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United over the past week and also what their rival teams in League One are up to.

POSH PAIR MISS OUT ON AWARDS

League One September Posh Nominees

Posh boss Darren Ferguson and striker Britt Assombalonga have missed out on winning the Manager and Player of the Month Awards.

Fergie missed out to Preston North End boss Simon Grayson who deservedly won the award but the typical curse struck as Preston lost their following game. Thankfully it was against Posh.

The player award went to Leyton Orients David Mooney who is leading the League One scoring charts.

POSH KEEP UP PRESSURE ON ORIENT

Tyrone Barnett scores v Preston

Posh are keeping the pressure on League leaders Leyton Orient after winning again. Posh beat the previously unbeaten Preston North End 2-0 thanks to two goalkeeping errors which produced goals for Tyrone Barnett and Grant McCann.

The win meant Posh have made a record breaking start to a League campaign. Darren Ferguson was delighted with the win as he described the win as an outstanding performance.

Lilywhites manager Simon Grayson backed his goalkeeper after the game who was at fault for both goals and was full of praise for the front three Posh strikers.

HIBBERT COMES OUT OF RETIREMENT

Dave Hibbert

It may not be transfer news relating to Posh but it`s worth noting that former Posh striker Dave Hibbert is coming out of retirement.

He`s not allowed to play in the Football League again but he has been training with Nuneaton and has now signed on non-contract terms.

Vital Posh wishes him all the best and he can forge a successful career in non-league and stay injury free.

SKY TV FINALLY SHOWING POSH

Peterborough United`s trip to Walsall in November has been put back 52 hours so it can be shown live on Sky Sports.

The fixture will now take place on Monday, 18th November and kick-off at 7:45pm.

The FA Cup could throw a spanner in the works for Sky though because if Walsall or Posh draw their first round match, then the replay will take place that week meaning the League match will revert back to the Saturday!

INTERNATIONAL CALL-UPS

Kgosi Ntlhe v Tranmere

Young Peterborough United duo Kgosi Ntlhe and Jaanai Gordon have had a call from their International associations.

Defender Kgosi Ntlhe has received the call from South Africa and has flown out to Morocco ahead of the game on Friday.

17-year-old striker Jaanai Gordon has again been placed on the standby list for the England Under 19 squad that play three international matches between 10th and 15th October.

POSH EYEING TROPHY

Posh are just four matches away from a date at Wembley and the chance to win the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy.

They moved into the quarter finals of the competition thanks to a lethargic win over League One rivals Brentford. A calamitous own goal was followed up by a Grant McCann penalty to secure the win but it got a bit nervy towards the end when substitute Ben Nugent pulled a goal back with 10 minutes remaining of the match.

Fergie was happy with the win and would love to add a Wembley appearance as a manager to his appearance as a player in the same competition.

SEPTEMBER PLAYER OF THE MONTH WINNER

Bobby Olejnik v Rotherham

Goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik won the second Player of the Month Award of the season.

A number of outstanding performances helped him to the accolade but striking duo Britt Assombalonga and Tyrone Barnett were close behind.

POSH TRANSFER UPDATE

It`s been all quiet on the transfer front at London Road this week.

Four Posh players remain on the transfer list: Gaby Zakuani, Tommy Rowe, Tyrone Barnett, and Nicky Ajose.

The following players have so far departed London Road on permanent deals:

George Boyd has signed for Premiership newboys Hull City
Jonson Clarke-Harris signed for League One rivals Oldham Athletic for an nominal fee
Dwight Gayle Dwight Gayle has made a multi-million pound move to Premiership Crystal Palace
Emile Sinclair - Crawley Town 3 Emile Sinclair joined League One rivals Crawley Town for a fee of £100,000

LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP

After dropping points for the first time last week against 10-man Walsall, Leyton Orient drew their second match in a row; this time at Oldham Athletic. Former Posh man Shaun Batt was the O`s hero as he scored the equaliser from what looked like an off-side position!

That allowed Posh and Wolves to move just a point behind the League leaders. Posh and Wolves have the same goal difference but Posh are ahead of Wolves due to the number of goals scored.

Two of last seasons promoted sides, Bradford City and Rotherham United are in the play-off places with Preston North End making up the top six.

At the other end, there are three points tied on five points but it is Tranmere Rovers who find themselves propping up the division.

Stevenage and Sheffield United are the other two sides with Crewe Alexandra just one point ahead of them.
