Vital Posh looks at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United over the past week and also what their rival teams in League One are up to.

BACK WITH A BANG

Posh produced an excellent performance against Leyton Orient who would`ve gone back to the top of League One had they beaten Posh.

Despite the good performance, it didn`t look like it was going to be Posh`s day when they fell behind with just twenty minutes remaining of the match.

As we have come to expect over the last few years, you can never write Posh off and it was top scorer Britt Assombalonga who brought Posh level with just three minutes remaining of the match.

That wasn`t the last of the scoring though as Posh captain Tommy Rowe notched a crucial goal in the 90th minute to seal all three points for Posh and a place back in the play-offs.

AJOSE PICKS UP FOOTBALL LEAGUE AWARD

Nicky Ajose - January League One Player of the Month

After over two years spent in the wilderness, Nicky Ajose returned to Posh with a bang as he finally showed Posh fans the reason why Darren Ferguson brought him to the club.

Five goals including a hat-trick against Notts County saw the striker win the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award.

IS SAFE-STANDING BACK ON THE AGENDA?

Safe_standing_area_fitted_with_rail_seats

Delegates from the Football Association and the Football League visited Ashton Gate today to view a small section of the stadium which has had “rail seating” installed.

Although Bristol City won`t be able to use the rail seats they will be used by the rugby club that shares the ground.

The Robins are re-developing their ground in the summer and they would like to install rail seats in certain areas of the ground but current regulations prohibit their use. It is hoped the rail seats will be approved by the delegation and pressure it put on the powers that be to change the rules which would allow the use of the seats.

Should they get the go ahead it could also mean that Posh would look to install them in the London Road terrace instead of just doing a “retrofit” in the summer.

GOAL OF THE MONTH

It was double delight for Nicky Ajose as he picked up another award for his efforts in January.

Voters from Vital Posh selected Ajose as their player of the month for January.

POSH TRANSFER ROUND-UP

Hot on the heels of Jack Baldwin signing a permanent deal on transfer deadline day, Posh have made three more signings.

The first signing was a Portuguese central defender on a permanent deal from Thurrock. Ricardo Santos is just 18-years-old and is “one for the future” but he has his admirers and was courted by numerous teams including some from the Premiership and Championship.

The next confirmed signing is attacking midfielder Josh McQuoid from Bournemouth. He has signed a 93-day loan and can play in a number of positions including striker. He has been out injured for the majority of this season but played an integral part last season helping the Cherries to promotion whilst playing the most of the games on the right side of midfield.

The final signing, although it`s still awaiting international clearance, is central defender Ben Nugent from Cardiff City. The 20-year-old actually scored against Posh earlier this season whilst on loan at Brentford.

LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP

Nile Ranger is in trouble again off the pitch. The Swindon Town striker has been arrested in Newcastle on suspicion of breaching bail conditions in relation to a forthcoming rape trial!

Bristol City have installed a small number of rail seats at their Ashton Gate home in the hope that safe-standing areas will be allowed in stadiums. There are a growing number of clubs, including Posh, that would like to introduce safe-standing so it must surely just be a matter of time before they are allowed in this country.

Has Leyton Orient`s bubble finally burst? Three defeats on the bounce has seen them fall from League leaders down to the play-off places! They are now one point behind second placed Wolves and three behind Brentford but they`ve now played a game more than the top two sides.

Stevenage are still rooted to the bottom of League One but they do have a number of games in hand on everyone else in the division. Shrewsbury, Sheffield United and Notts County make up the bottom four.
