Vital Posh looks at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United over the past week and also what their rival teams in League One are up to.

SQUAD NUMBERS RELEASED

Kit in changing room 2

Posh have released the squad numbers for the forthcoming season.

The majority of players have retained their number from last season while all the players on the transfer list have been given a squad number.

The number nine shirt has been left vacant for the replacement of Dwight Gayle who recently signed for Crystal Palace.

POSH BEAT CHAMPIONSHIP QPR

Danny Kearns v QPR

Posh beat last seasons Premiership basement team in their first outing at London Road this pre-season.

A late goal, which was credited to Emile Sinclair but in truth looked like he got a touch after the ball had crossed the line, was the difference between two sides still finding their feet in pre-season.

The match also saw a French trialist playing for Posh as Posh look for a replacement for Dwight Gayle. Sadly Yohann Lasimant is not the answer as he was short of confidence and didn`t provide the movement or goal threat that Posh need. The Frenchman has now signed a permanent deal with Leyton Orient!

It was a good run out with many players putting in a good amount of effort. Transfer listed Danny Kearns showed both the crowd and Darren Ferguson exactly what he can bring to the table and the young Irish midfielder is now firmly back in Fergies plans for the coming season.

POSH TRANSFER UPDATE

There has been no movement in or out again this week as Posh still look to move players on.

Danny Kearns is currently on the list but his performances in pre-season has changed Fergie`s mind on the midfielder. Kearns is now in his plans for the forthcoming season.

Former loanee Scott Wootton has been placed on the transfer list by parent club Manchester United. Should Posh look to bring him in? He would surely form an excellent partnership with Michael Bostwick in the centre of defence.

Six Posh players are currently on the transfer list are: Gaby Zakuani, Tommy Rowe, Tyrone Barnett, Emile Sinclair, Danny Kearns and Nicky Ajose.

The following players have so far departed London Road:

George Boyd has signed for Premiership newboys Hull City
Jonson Clarke-Harris signed for League One rivals Oldham Athletic for an nominal fee
Mark Little has left following the end of his contract and is currently on trial at Championship Birmingham City
Dwight Gayle Dwight Gayle has made a multi-million pound move to Premiership Crystal Palace

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES

Posh played their first pre-season match on home soil on Saturday as they played last seasons relegated Premiership side QPR. They next have a game this evening [Wednesday] away at Mansfield Town.

Results So Far

Posh 1 v 0 QPR (Sinclair)
Longford U19`s 0 v 3 Posh U18`s
UCD 2 v 2 Posh (Ajose x 2)
UCD U19`s 1 v 1 Posh U18`s
Shelbourne 1 v 1 Posh (Tomlin)

The remaining home pre-season matches are:

Wednesday, 24th July – Watford
Monday, 29th July – Hull City

Tickets for all the home pre-season matches cost just £5 for season ticket holders if bought in advance while the price increases to £10, the same price for non-season ticket holders, if bought on the day. Under 16`s get in for just £5.

Other pre-season matches scheduled are:

Wednesday, 17th July – Mansfield Town
Saturday, 20th July – Northampton Town
Saturday, 27th July – Bedford Town (v Posh XI)

LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP

As Posh were facing QPR on Saturday, fellow League One side Shrewsbury Town were taking on the might of Galatasaray!! The Shrews, not surprisingly, lost 3-0!

The first managerial casualty of the season has already occurred!! Swindon Town have departed with manager Kevin MacDonald which means former Posh boss Mark Cooper could be taking charge of team affairs when the Robins come to London Road on the opening day of the season.

If you thought the Coventry City stadium saga had come to a conclusion when a deal was agreed for the club to play at Sixfields for the next three years, think again. Arena Coventry Ltd, the operator of the Ricoh Arena, has issued a notice of intent to Northampton Town as they believe they have a pre-existing contract in place with Coventry City to host matches! Watch this space for the next twist and turn in this long running saga.
