The latest Posh Weekly looks at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United over the past week and also what their rival teams in League One are up to.

BURGESS FIRST TO LEAVE ABAX

Posh have agreed terms with League Two side Portsmouth for transfer listed centre-back Christian Burgess.

Burgess only signed for Posh last August but his inconsistent displays saw him dropped when Dave Robertson took over as manager. He only started one game for Posh after that; a one-nil defeat to Coventry City.

Posh will expect a fee for Burgess who will now undergo a medical before completing his move when he returns from holiday.

POSH GET THEIR 20-GOAL MAN

Posh believe they have signed the 20-goal a season striker they were missing last season.

Joe Gormley has signed a three-year contract at the ABAX and it was assistant manager Grant McCann that brought him to the attention of Posh when McCann played for Linfield last season.

The former Cliftonville striker has broken records in his time at the Belfast club notching 40 goals for his side last season, including an impressive five hat-tricks, on his way to breaking his own club record for the number of goals scored in a season.

Watch what manager Dave Robertson and Joe Gormley have to say about the transfer.

Gormley is the second summer signing for Posh with one more permanent signing expected in the next few weeks. Posh are still expected to bring in a couple of players on season long loans.

POSH RUMOUR MILL

It`s been a fairly quiet week with regards to rumours as most people are now speculating who the final permanent signing will be. Barry Fry has been quoted as saying that it`ll be an “exciting winger”!

Many people believe it`ll be Dean Cox. Cox has a good relationship with chairman Darragh MacAnthony and now Leyton Orient find themselves in League Two, would Cox want to move to a higher League team? Cox is on honeymoon at the moment so if he is the third signing for Posh, it won`t happen until he returns.

Another winger being mentioned is that of Ross Clarke from Linfield. Grant McCann will know all about him but the rumour could have started just because McCann spent time over the water last season and that we`re after a winger!

Will we end up with just one more player or can we expect more players coming in to the club? MacAnthony certainly hints that one more player incoming may not be the last as he said: “I see the gaffer made cardinal error lol of suggesting only 1 more signing. I’m sure that’s set off usual lot into whinge mode- fuse lit”.

It will probably turn out to be one more player in until we start to get rid of the players on the transfer list and then as they leave, we will then bring others in to the club.

LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP

Other than teams making signings, it`s been a very quiet week news-wise for League One sides?including Blackpool!

Slightly belated, but Scunthorpe United have cancelled the contract of winger Jennison Myrie-Williams by mutual consent. The 27-year-old joined the Iron on a two-year deal last summer after rejecting a new deal with Port Vale. Myrie-Williams made just seven starts for the Glanford Park side before joining Tranmere on loan in January for the remainder of the season.

Sheffield United have renamed the Jessica Ennis-Hill stand at Bramall Lane, less than three years after naming it after the Olympic champion. The stand was named to honour the Sheffield-born athlete’s success in the London 2012 heptathlon. After the Blades potential move for convicted rapist Ched Evans last season, Ennis-Hill wanted her name to be removed from the stand. Her name has now been removed but this is because of local estate agent Redbrik Estate Agency sponsoring it.

OTHER NEWS OF INTEREST

James Pearson who was on loan at Posh at the end of the season has been sacked by his parent club Leicester City. He was among a trio of players who took part in a racist sex tape which was filmed on the club’s end-of-season tour of Thailand. Pearson, 22, along with Tom Hopper, 21, and Adam Smith, 22, had their contracts terminated following an internal investigation by the club.

Former Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur player Clint Dempsey could be in a bit ot trouble with the Football Authorities. In his latest match for Seattle Sounders, he was so frustrated at the referee that he threw the ref`s notebook to the ground before picking it up and tearing it up into pieces!! Seattle were losing at the time of the incident and had already lost two players to red cards and were down to eight players after another player went off injured after all three subs had been made. Seven-man Seattle eventually lost the Cup match 3-1 but the former USA International must be in serious trouble for his actions.
