What did Keith Hill and Darren Ferguson think about Saturdays match?

After four successive defeats without finding the back of the net, Tykes boss Keith Hill was obviously delighted with the outcome: “We defended very well and very comfortably even with 10 men.
“I was surprised how few chances we restricted them to considering the standard of player they had on the pitch and taking into account what they have been doing to teams lately.
“They have been scoring goals very easily, but I can`t remember one chance they created which proves how well we did despite the handicap of a red card in the first half.
“I`m very proud of my players because we had suffered a rough spell, but they accepted the challenges of our situation and of a very talented Peterborough side and came through it well.
“I wouldn`t say we are safe now, but we are in a safe zone and the same can be said for Peterborough, The teams at the bottom have less points than they have played games and teams in that situation don`t tend to win too many games in a row.”

Posh boss Darren Ferguson was very disappointed with the performance of his players: “We weren`t good enough, plain and simple. We were inept, ran out of ideas quickly and the whole performance was unacceptable.
“We started badly and never improved. The whole tempo to our game was wrong. I`ll never question the attitude or the effort of my players, but there was very little going on out there that pleased me.
“I was wary about this game. The players have quite rightly had a lot of plaudits for the way they`ve played in the three previous matches, but I was concerned that Barnsley`s style of play and the fact they were desperate for a win would make things difficult for us.
“And it did. In a strange way going down to 10 men made it easier for them because they were able to sit in and wait for us to make mistakes.
“All credit to them as it was the right tactic and they deserved to win, but we are capable of much better than that.
“We punished Reading last week when we had space to play, but we seemed at a loss as how to cope with the pattern of this match.
“When we started hitting long, diagonal balls towards Tyrone Barnett we looked slightly more dangerous, but we should have been doing it sooner.
“We made it far too easy for them.
“The players owe the club a performance after Saturday.
“That just wasn`t good enough. We were inept, everything we did was done far too slowly.
“The performance proved again that if we let our standards drop we will get beaten. Our inconsistency has hurt us too often this season.
“We haven`t won in eight away games now, but we should still be okay. Five of our last eight games are at home and we`ve been good there lately.
“We need to get back to the level of the Reading performance and I think we will. The players will be hurting and there will be a reaction.
“There had better be or any decisions I have to make in the summer will be very easy.”
