Manchester United defender Scott Wootton has had his loan to Peterborough United cut short by injury.

The up and coming defender started both games for Peterborough United after signing on loan for the Championship club for the rest of the season. It is his second stint at the club after spending a number of months on loan at the London Road club last season.

He had an accomplished display in his first match and capped it off by scoring a goal another club he was on loan at last season – Nottingham Forest.

The match at Forest ended in a narrow 2-1 defeat but a battling display against promotion chasing Hull City saw Wootton play an integral part in the 1-1 draw.

Unfortunately Wootton picked up a hamstring injury in the lead up to the next match and he could be out of action for up to six weeks. He is expected to return to London Road once he has fully recovered from the injury as Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: “It`s a blow for Scott and a blow for the team, but we have him on loan until the end of the season so he could still come back.

“We had found Scott a position in the middle of the back three that suited his skills. He`s easily the most accomplished ball-playing defender we had”.
