Posh cruised into the second round of the Carling Cup with an emphatic win at a sparsely populated Adams Park.

As he`d implied in the pre-match build up Darren Ferguson chose to field a strong team, a side that included summer signings Pearce, Frecklington, Diagouraga and Rowe.

The tie was effectively won in the first half with a first goal of the season for ace marksman, Aaron Mclean (24 mins) and a first goal for new signing Tommy Rowe (33 mins).

At 2-0 down at the break there really was no way back for Wycombe Wanderers and it came as no surprise when Posh added further strikes from Boyd (59 mins) and Frecklington (68 mins).

Darren Ferguson, speaking about the performance in an enthusiastic manner commented,

“We were outstanding. It was one of the best performances I`ve seen. It was a pleasure to watch. It could have been a lot more.”

We won`t argue with that and we sit poised to hear who we draw in the second round with the draw taking place at 22:00 hours this evening (Wednesday).

However, it should be considered by all those hoping for a plum draw against one of the big four that those clubs in European competition do not enter the fray until round three.
