After ignoring the pain of a niggling injury to help us gain promotion last Saturday, Gabriel Zakuani has given us all hope that we can more than hold our own in the higher division.

Zakuani is, off course, well qualified to speak about life in the Championship having spent several months assisting Stoke City in their famous drive towards the Premier League.

Peaking to the local media, Zakuani had this to say about what lies ahead, remarking,

‘We deserve to be in the Championship and if everyone stays fit and healthy we will be competitive.”

‘We are a young and hungry side who will continue to improve. We will also start the season with plenty of momentum behind us.”

‘The club is buzzing after winning promotion at the weekend. In fact the celebrations have only just stopped!”

‘We had a terrific weekend in London at the PFA awards, but we are back to work tomorrow and we want to finish the season on a high.”

‘There will be a party atmosphere at London Road on Saturday and we will be going all to celebrate a great season with a win.”

‘We won’t be among the fancied sides next season, but that will probably help us as well. I really fancy us to do well and I can’t wait to get going.”

‘I knew after a few weeks on loan here that I was joining a side that was going places. It’s maybe happened a bit quicker than I thought, but we deserved to finish second.”

‘If we can finish close to Leicester and above Leeds this season, there’s no reason why we can’t finish well up the Championship table.’

Consolidation is what that crucial first season in the Championship is all about.

Mid-table would suit us nicely wouldn`t it?
