Peterborough United have made an ambitious move for a Championship midfielder!

Mark Tyler cant stop the penalty from Swindons Michael Doughty

After signing three players and initiating talks surrounding goalkeeper Luke McGee, it has come to light that Posh are now trying to tempt a player from Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Midfielder Michael Doughty has spent large portions of the last two seasons at League One side Swindon Town, scoring against Posh more than once, and has made a huge impression on Posh boss Grant McCann.

R`s boss Ian Holloway recalled Doughty from a season-long loan at the Robins in January, insisting he rated the 24-year-old highly and wanted to give him a chance in the first team.

Doughty, who has one year left on his contract, only started two matches after being recalled and has made just 12 first-team appearances for his parent club, nine of them as a substitute!

Since joining the R`s as a 14-year-old, Doughty has been capped at Welsh under 19 and under 21 levels and has been loaned out to six clubs with the other five being Crawley, Aldershot, St Johnstone, Stevenage and Gillingham.

Like McGee though, the sticking point could be the wage demands as Posh Director of Football Barry Fry confirmed: “It could be a tough one to pull off. He`s on good money at QPR.”
