Peterborough United have made their second signing inside a week and it is yet another free transfer!

After signing local lad and National League Player of the Year Ricky Miller last week, Posh have bolstered their attacking options with another signing.

Danny Lloyd is the player in question and he has also signed on a free transfer from a National League side. This time it is from Stockport County after his contract came to an end.

The 25-year-old, who will quit his day job as a Business Development Manager to join Posh, scored 29 goals for the Hatters assisting on 19 other goals this season which means Posh have a strike force which scored over 70 goals in the National League this season!

With Marcus Maddison on the transfer list and who is expected to depart the club during the summer, attacking midfielder Lloyd looks like he could be a replacement although it would be good to have both players in the Posh squad!

Attacking midfielder Lloyd, who played under former Posh boss Jim Gannon at County, was delighted to jump at the chance to sign for Posh despite interest from League Two Champions Portsmouth, fellow promoted side Plymouth Argyle and Scottish sides Hibernian and Motherwell.

‘It was an easy decision for me if I am honest,” said Lloyd. “As soon as I heard about the interest from Peterborough, I wanted to sign. I am a player who likes to create and score goals, I am direct, quick and always want to go forward.

‘If I am honest, I wish pre-season was starting tomorrow because I am eager to get going. This is an opportunity for me and I am going to work extremely hard from day one.

“I believe in my ability and believe this is a level I should be playing at. I wish it was 1 July already,’ he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

‘To be brutally honest it was a very easy decision to join Peterborough. Once I spoke with the gaffer about the way he wants to play, it’s very similar to what I’ve been playing.

‘I think I’ll fit in really well and he thinks I’ll fit in really well. Everyone knows Peterborough United’s track record and what they’ve done for lads from non-league.

‘First and foremost, this season’s about working hard for the club and if the club do well, the lads will do well.’

Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony was pleased with the latest signing describing him as being “versatile who can play wide, off front man, behind front 2 etc so an excellent addition”. He also compared Lloyd to a Jon Taylor and Lee Tomlin type of player who “can match Marcus for set pieces, corners / free kicks etc”.

Posh boss Grant McCann was another to be delighted at signing another player who knows where the goal is as he said: ‘I am delighted to sign Danny, he adds to the attacking threat. He has scored a lot of goals and created a lot of goals too and he will be a great addition to us moving forward.

‘He has a real hunger and desire, he is a good age and it is pleasing that he has committed to the Posh. The Posh fans will like him because he plays on the edge and has a good temperament.

‘He likes to get forward at every opportunity and I am looking forward to working with him,’ McCann said.

With Lloyd, Miller and January recruit Junior Morias all joining Posh from non-league, they`ve all been given special programs from the Posh sports science department to work on over the next seven weeks before pre-season starts.

It`ll be interesting to see if one or both Lloyd and Miller can make the step up in their stride; something Joe Gormley sadly was unable to do. Having scored so many goals this season, it will certainly be exciting if they can score even half the amount of goals between them next season.
