Peterborough United have completed the signing of National League Player of the Season Ricky Miller who grew up in the city.

Posh have swooped to make their first signing of the summer just days after their League campaign finished.

Dover Athletic striker Ricky Miller has signed on a free transfer after completing a medical on Wednesday and signing a three-year contract.

The 28-year-old scored an impressive 42 goals in 43 appearances for the Whites and has had a number of clubs keeping a keen eye on him including Bristol Rovers and Charlton Athletic but the lad, originally from Bretton, jumped at the chance to sign for his hometown club.

Miller started his career with local Sunday morning side Bretton FC before moving on to
Spalding United, Stamford and Boston United before getting his only experience in the Football League with Luton Town where he made 15 appearances scoring twice.

Speaking to Peterborough Telegraph, Miller was obviously delighted with signing for Posh: “When I was playing for Stamford and Boston locally, I could only dream of signing for Peterborough.

“It is a dream come true. I know plenty of people in Peterborough, and me and my family are really excited about the move.

“I had a great season with Dover. I was told I didn`t go more than two games without scoring and I`m confident I can improve. Dover are one of the few teams in the National League not to be full-time so I feel confident I can improve my game.

“If I can score half as many goals next season I`d be delighted, but my first task is to establish myself at the club and try and hit the ground running.

“It is a big step up for me, but I work harder I am confident I will show my best. I know where the back of the net is and I`m not bad with my back to goal either.

“Hopefully I can help the team. I know they struggled for goals last season.”

Peterborough United boss Grant McCann said: “I am delighted that Ricky has signed. We are pleased it is all done and dusted now. He has been the top player in the National League, scoring over 40 goals, and he`s a natural winner.

“He knows where the back of the net is and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Director of football Barry Fry also commented on the signing: “Ricky has done brilliantly to score the amount of goals he has and hopefully he will come here and hit the ground running.

“To be fair, we tried to buy Ricky in January, but the chairman of Dover never returned my calls!

“It was understandable, because Dover had the ambition to get promoted.”

Posh certainly have struggled for goals this season and are in the hunt for another forward to compliment Tom Nichols and Junior Morias as well as Miller.
