The December npower Championship Player of the Month Award was between Anthony Gardner of Sheffield Wednesday and Mark Hudson from Cardiff City and Dwight Gayle of Peterborough United but who was the winner?

With seven goals in six games and having just stepped up two divisions to the Championship, there could only be one winner?

Dwight Gayle - npower Championship Player of the Month December 2012

Dwight Gayle signed on loan for Posh from League Two outfit Dagenham and Redbridge and scored in every game during December with the first one of those coming during the disappointing home defeat to Blackpool.

He followed that up in the next game with a brace of goals against promotion chasing Middlesbrough. His first was a stunning long range effort after he had easily turned Jonathan Woodgate.

Further goals followed in the wins over Cardiff City, Bolton Wanderers and Wolverhampton Wanderers before he got a consolation goal for Posh in the away defeat to Bristol City.

The npower Football League Player of the Month panel comprised of npower`s Emma Collins, The Football League`s Head of Communications, John Nagle, former Wolves player Don Goodman and BBC Sport`s Mark Clemmit.

Hull City`s Steve Bruce won the npower Championship Manager of the Month for December.

Emma Collins, the npower Sponsorship Manager said: “It was clearly a very happy Christmas for both winners. I`m sure Hull City fans will be looking for more of the same to really add weight to their promotion hopes, while Peterborough United have clearly unearthed a natural goal scorer in Gayle.”

Congratulations Dwight on your deserved award.
