Cliftonville have accepted an offer from The Posh for their goal machine, Joe Gormley. The 25 year old striker has broken records in his time at the Belfast club. Last season, he notched 40 goals for his side, including an impressive five hat-tricks, on his way to breaking his own club record for the number of goals scored in a season.
In 2011, Gormley played for Northern Irish Amateur League side Crumlin Star, where he bagged a staggering 61 goals in just 24 matches! He later signed for Cliftonville, where he has won back-to-back Premiership titles, as well as three successive league cup wins. In 133 matches for the Irish Premiership side, he’s netted 85 goals. He was named the NI Football Writers; player of the year in 2014.
Many Cliftonville fans have suggested that Gormley is more than good enough to play at a higher level, but he’s not been given the chance to ‘challenge’ himself on a bigger stage. It seems that he will get this chance next season, as Posh aren’t the only club rumoured to be interested in acquiring his services. Leeds United and Brentford, both of the Championship, have been linked with the forward, whilst a host of Scottish clubs, including St Johnstone, have showed an interest in recent times.
But reports suggest that Posh are in the pole position to sign Gormley, which judging on his stats, you would suggest is very positive news indeed for the Posh! News on the signing (or not) of Joe Gormley, and other signings will be found right here on Vital Posh as soon as they happen!
