Will there finally be an agreement between Peterborough United and Peterborough City Council over the ground rent and re-development?

London Road - North Stand

The dispute between Posh and Peterborough City Council over plans for the re-development of the London Road ground could finally be coming to a conclusion!

The Moys` End away stand was initially due to be demolished two years ago but the council have dragged their feet over the plans and then there was a disagreement with the club over the amount of rent they should pay during the re-development.

A number of discussions have taken place during this time between the two parties including one involving Council Leader Marco Cereste and Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony. During these discussions it was agreed that as part of the new agreement being formulated, it would include the terms in which Posh would be able to acquire the freehold of the ground.

It is believed it is these new terms that have taken the time to agree but noises coming out of the council sound very positive.

The current lease runs out on 1st June 2014 and this lease requires the club to pay for all maintenance and repairs. The new lease will include terms relating to outstanding rent from the past year, the length of the new lease which will allow Posh to acquire the freehold and the reduced rent payable during the re-development of the ground.

Marco Cereste is confident things will be agreed very soon and that the council will make a profit from the overall agreement as he said: “I`m hoping that a deal will be agreed in two to three weeks.

“I am quite happy to sell the ground to the club so long as the council made a profit, even if it is just a £1.”

We`ve heard it all before about things being close but are things finally going to be agreed so we can start demolishing the poor terracing? Even if an agreement is finally made, we probably won`t see any worked done on the ground at least until next summer based on how slow the Council operate!!
