Peterborough United midfielders Kane Ferdinand has joined League Two outfit Cheltenham Town on loan.

Ferdinand has been struggling to get any decent first team action since Posh dropped down from the Championship at the end of the 2012/13 season and has been out on loan to various clubs since. After spending many matches watching Posh from the bench this season, he is heading out of London Road again on loan.

This time it`s with League Two side Cheltenham Town. He will spend an initial two-month spell at Whaddon Road trying to help Cheltenham move up the table from their current place of 16th.

Robins manager Mark Yates told the club website: “I’ve finally got him having asked plenty of times.

“He is a goal threat, he can play in a few different positions and he is a good size. He has played in the Championship and he is hungry to play games and help us out, so I am really delighted to bring him in.”

Ferdinand is happy to make the move as he has been desperate to play football and this move will give him the chance to do just that. Talking to the Robins official website, Ferdinand said: “I realised at my age I need to be playing games, so when I heard Cheltenham were interested in taking me on loan, I thought ‘why not?`

“It`s a good club and I want to get back to playing football again, so we`ll see how training goes and hopefully I can get into the team and have a good time here.”

“I prefer to be in the middle, maybe just ahead of the midfield two, but I will play wherever I am needed,” he continued.

“I hope I can bring goals if I can get into the team, but I can get about the pitch and I am looking forward to getting in there.”

Before making the move, he discussed the club with former Cheltenham player Grant McCann.

“Macca said it`s a great, well supported club and generally a good place to play, so I am looking forward to it,” said Ferdinand.

“I saw the recent result against Swindon in the FA Cup [5-0 win] and it`s exciting to be involved. The games will come thick and fast before Christmas now, so I want to stay injury free and get a lot of appearances under my belt.

“I haven`t played much football recently, but I am fairly fit naturally so I am ready to go straight into the side. I don`t know any of the lads here, but I have played against most of them so hopefully we can get a relationship on and off the pitch quickly.”

Posh have given Cheltenham permission for Ferdinand to play in their FA Cup second round match against Dover Athletic next month.
