It`s been 24 hours since the shock transfer of Peterborough United striker Britt Assombalonga to Nottingham Forest. We take a look at the reaction of both sets of fans, management and owners.
Many Posh fans were shocked when rumours started to do the rounds that Britt was having a medical at Forest but once the news was confirmed along with the rumoured fee (it is “undisclosed” by the clubs!), the majority of Posh fans felt it was another good piece of business by the club.
Yes, it leaves a massive hole in the attacking potency of Posh but it has happened before and no doubt it will happen again in the future. Until new bodies come in to the club and the strong rumour is that Posh are interested in Hartlepool United`s teenage striker Luke James.
It is two seasons in a row now that Posh have lost their main striker after Dwight Gayle was sold this time last year but for a club only getting crowds of 6 or 7,000 it is essential that it is run like a business and that is exactly what Darragh MacAnthony is doing and doing very well.
If you look at Gayle and Assombalonga, they were purchased for a combined figure of around £2 million but Posh can expect around 6 times that amount in return having sold them to Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest. A nice tidy profit!
Posh may struggle a bit initially until Darren Ferguson finds the ideal front partnership without Britt but we have to cut our cloth accordingly. Posh still have strikers at the club that can do the business in League One and any additions made with the profit from the Assombalonga sale will only boost the club.
Forest are going through a transitional period with a new manager who seems to be finding it awkward to work with the owners of the club after they sold two players this week without the blessing of the manager! On a positive note, the two players were loaned straight back to the club for the season.
The purchase of Assombalonga will ease their eventual departure if Forest can play to his strengths. He has an obvious eye for the goal and always seems to be in the right place at the right time but it is another big step in his career.
Hopefully he can kick on from where he left off at Posh last season and fire the goals for Forest as they look to mount a promotion challenge after finishing in 11th place last season.

Unfortunately a club of Posh’s size has to accept a bid of £5.5 million. A lot of money for a player with as many flaws as Assombalonga.
