The man in charge of the Sky Bet League One opener between Rochdale and Peterborough United is GEOFF ELTRINGHAM.

County Durham-based referee Geoff Eltringham will take charge of the opening day clash between Rochdale and Posh.

Eltringham was appointed on to the Football League list in 2008 as an assistant. Just a year later, he was upgraded to referee. He is now entering his sixth season as the man in the middle.

Posh last had the pleasure of Eltringham referee them in 2012/13 season when they visited Watford and came away with a 1-0 defeat thanks to a Matej Vydra penalty in the 90th minute! Six yellow cards were also shown in the game with all of them being shared by both sides. For Posh, Nat Knight-Percival, Kgosi Ntlhe and Grant McCann were the players to receive a yellow card.

Rochdale had Eltringham referee them last season when they hosted Morecambe at Spotland in February. Dale won the match 2-1 after coming from behind and they also received the two yellow cards issued during the game.

Last season, Eltringham refereed 29 matches, issuing 90 yellow cards and 6 reds.

The last match Eltringham took charge of was the Championship clash between Birmingham City and Leeds United. Leeds won 3-1 and also received one yellow card.

The last League One match Eltringham took charge of was at the end of March when he officiated the top of the table clash between Rotherham United and Brentford. The Millers cruised to a 3-0 victory thanks to a brace of goals from Kieran Agard in the first half before a 90th minute Haris Vuckic goal sealed the victory. Three yellow cards were issued with two of them going to the home side.

The assistant referees for the Dale v Posh clash are Barry Cropp and Alf Greenwood. The fourth official is Alix Pashley.
