Preston v Posh 2009-10 programme

Preston maintained their unbeaten start to the season with an easy win against Posh, but they lost midfielder Barry Nicholson to a broken leg.

Neil Mellor opened the scoring with a neat finish at the near post before Nicholson was injured during an innocuous challenge on George Boyd in the 23rd minute. Boyd was able to continue but Nicholson was stretchered off with a leg brace on. Nicholson was booked by referee David Webb as he was stretchered from the field of play.

Preston doubled their advantage when Mellor turned provider on the half hour, slipping in full-back Billy Jones who powered a rare goal past Joe Lewis.

Posh improved in the second half but, as we`ve seen plenty of times, they were unable to find a breakthrough.
