Vital Posh looks at previous matches between Middlesbrough and Posh.

Peterborough United face the long trip on Saturday to the npower Championships 3rd place team Middlesbrough.

Posh have played just three league games at Middlesbrough with a further four games in Cup competitions.

The last league appearance Posh made at Middlesbrough ended in a 1-0 defeat, with the other two League matches ending in a draw and another defeat, so Posh are yet to win at Middlesbrough.

Last Time Out

Posh were routed to the bottom of the Championship the last time they travelled to Middlesbrough in the 2009/10 season.

Twelve points from safety with two-thirds of the season gone, Posh needed something to go for them and quickly but were facing a team in Middlesbrough that had started the season slowly but were gaining ground on the play-off pack quickly and were only two points and two places outside the play-offs.

561 hardy Posh fans made the trip to see a spirited Posh display but it was Joe Lewis who was tested out in the Posh goal first as he pushed a Josh Walker shot around the post.

With Boro keeping possession well, they took the lead with a goal from captain Barry ROBSON. The goal was created by Jonathan Franks who easily beat Charlie Lee for pace to get to the by-line.

Ryan Bennett was on hand to block an effort from Lee Miller with the ball going wide for a corner which was then headed wide by centre back Stephen McManus.

Another Middlesbrough effort saw Scott McDonald`s shot go over the bar after only 18 minutes.

Posh were really struggling to gain any sort of possession but they finally started to impose themselves after half an hour with Jake Livermore getting on the ball more before winning their first corner of the game.

Lee Frecklington saw a shot blocked on 33 minutes before McDonald headed wide at the other end.

Lewis was then called into action again when tipping over what looked to be a goal-bound effort by Flood before making a fine save to stop a fierce McDonald shot.

Tommy Rowe`s head then made contact with the high foot of Robson as Posh were happy to retain possession, albeit in their own half!

Another excellent corner from Frecklington, on the stroke of half time, created half chances for both Bennett and Morgan but neither could put their chances away. Boro keeper Danny Coyne was called into action moments later when he pushed a curling effort from Frecklington away to safety.

Half-time: Middlesbrough 1-0 Posh

With no changes being made at the interval, Boro continued to cause the Posh back line problems as Franks delivered some quality crosses into the box.

Posh boss Jim Gannon made a double substitution after 52 minutes bringing on Reuben Reid and Josh Simpson in place of Charlie Lee and Tom Williams. A few minutes later, Boro made changes themselves.

Boro created the next chance of the game at the Riverside Stadium when Franks cut inside from the left before firing wide of the goal.

Reuben Reid`s pace and delivery into the box was causing the Middlesbrough defence problems but no one could get on the end of any of the crosses.

A rash challenge by Frecklington earned him a yellow card on 65 minutes before Livermore was caught in possession but Flood`s shot went wide much to the displeasure of the home fans.

Leroy Lita was next to enter the game with just 15 minutes left to play while 5 minutes later, Craig Mackail-Smith was replaced by Aaron Mclean.

There was only one more effort of note in the game and that fell to Posh with just three minutes remaining. Josh Simpson received the ball inside the six-yard box, but his shot was blocked before Coyne managed to punch the ball clear.
