Peterborough United had a trialist playing against Wolverhampton Wanderers but who is he?

Posh named a mystery trialist and legend Craig Mackail-Smith in their squad to face Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers. Posh lost the match one-nil after going in at half-time goalless. Posh completely changed their side at half-time bringing on a less experienced side although it did contain Mackail-Smith and the trialist.

While Mackail-Smith was only playing to build up his fitness and put himself in the shop window for other clubs, who was the mystery trialist?

Many people thought it could be 19-year-old Jodi Jones from Coventry City but the winger only signed a new four-year deal at the Ricoh Arena last year and Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony denied it was him.

So who is it? Another name in the frame is Sandro Semedo!

Semedo is a 20-year-old winger and, if it was him playing for Posh last night, played in the number 10 position and looked pretty nippy!

The Portuguese has spent the last few seasons with Leyton Orient but his contract came to an end at the end of last season.

After representing lower league sides in his native country, Semedo joined Stoke City in the summer of 2012. He had a short spell at Colchester United before joining Leyton Orient’s youth setup in 2013. He was offered a two-year professional contract in 2015.

Alternatively, could the player be Reise Allassani?

Allassani was released by Crystal Palace in the summer of 2016 but has been battling back from a serious ACL injury and is now ready to deliver on the previous hype that was made about him.

The attacking midfielder, 21, was marked out as one of the outstanding talents in the game and was capped by England at both under-16 and under-17 level.

Allassani was released by the Eagles in the summer of 2016 and was on the verge of signing for Sheffield Wednesday in September when he injured his anterior cruciate ligament.

“I planted my leg, my knee rolled inside and I felt it rip,” said Allassani. “I just went into shock a little bit.

“There was a contract on the table and I believe my agent was going to come to an agreement the week I did my ACL. It was hard to take. I was a bit upset and down.”

Allassani has been given the go-ahead to start pre-season training. Next comes fixing himself up with a club.

“My agent is working on a few things. My hope would be to go to League One or League Two. Realistically, I just want to have a whole season where I am playing week in, week out at a good level. I believe I can play at that level, but it is getting a chance and proving it.

“It`s been a hard period, getting released by Palace and a few months later doing my ACL. But it has made me a lot stronger and realise how much I want it. Nothing is going to stop me getting to where I want to get to.”

Speaking after last night`s one-nil defeat to Wolves, Posh boss Grant McCann said that he would be speaking to the trialist and his agent today but also said that the squad is filling up and almost complete so there may not be any room (unless Marcus Maddison is sold!).
