What happened on the first day of the season in the Sky Bet EFL League One?
There was a mixed bag of results for the seven new teams in League One this season.
Of the three teams that came down from the Championship, only Wigan Athletic got off to a winning start by beating MK Dons one-nil. Both sides had a man sent off during the game and coincidentally, it was two former Posh loanees!
Callum Elder was first to receive his marching orders a minute before half-time with the Latics having already scored the only goal of the game. Thirteen minutes into the second-half and Scott Wootton went for an early bath for the Dons.
Rotherham United and Blackburn Rovers both had tough looking fixtures with sides finishing in the top seven last season. The Millers went down two-nil at Fleetwood Town while Blackburn Rovers also found themselves two goals down before pulling a goal back at Southend United.
Just one of the four promoted sides won their opening game of the season and that was the much fancied Portsmouth.
Pompey beat Rochdale two-nil but they were given a helping hand when Dale`s Keith Keane was shown a straight red card after only 21 minutes. It was Pompey`s new striker, Brett Pitman, who stole the show though with both goals, the first after 46 minutes with the second in the second minute of added time when both sides were down to 10-men!
Former Posh boss Darren Ferguson witnessed his Doncaster Rovers side pick up a point in a goalless draw against Gillingham. Both sides could`ve won the game with former Posh defenders Gaby Zakuani and Danny Andrew both having efforts cleared off the line for the Gills and Rovers respectively.
The other two promoted sides both lost their opening encounter. Play-off winners Blackpool lost two-one at Bradford City. The match was held up for 12 minutes while former Charlton Athletic player Adam Chicksen received on-field treatment before being carried off on a stretcher.
Plymouth Argyle also lost two-one at Peterborough United in an entertaining game which both sides will be disappointed that they hadn`t scored more goals than they did.
There were four other winners on the opening day of the season. Oxford United, Charlton Athletic, Bury and Shrewsbury Town all won and kept a clean sheet.
The following are the first set of results in League One:
