Peterborough United`s 17-goal striker Jack Marriott has a host of Championship clubs looking at him.

When Posh signed Jack Marriott from League Two side Luton Town in the summer, it was felt it was a bit of a gamble.

Despite being named supporters player of the season and young player of the season at Luton in his first season with the club, last season saw Marriott play second fiddle to the other strikers at Luton as he found himself increasingly on the bench.

Posh had been keeping an eye on Marriott for a while though and were convinced he could do a good job for them and how right they were. With Christmas just around the corner, Marriott has already notched 17 goals this season.

Taking into account just League and FA Cup goals, Marriott is the top scorer in all four divisions and that form has alerted sides higher up the League ladder.

A national newspaper [Daily Mail] has suggested the Championship sides QPR, Millwall, Sunderland and Aston Villa, who face Posh in round three of the FA Cup in January, are all interested in signing the striker.

The Lions could be priced out of any deal with the paper quoting a fee of around £2.5 million. The R`s may also find it difficult to compete financially as they are severely restricted by the Financial Fair Play rules which means they may have to sell players before they can bring any in. Could former Posh striker Conor Washington be one of those R`s players heading out of Loftus Road?

All this speculation is all well and good but at the end of the day, it would be down to Posh whether they wanted to part with the one striker they have in their squad that is scoring!

We all know Posh regularly have to sell a prized asset every so often and with the recent announcement that Posh made a loss of over £1 million, could January be the time they cash in or is Chairman Darragh MacAnthony determined to give his manager the best chance of gaining promotion by keeping his star striker?

Marriott isn`t the only player that many Posh fans desperately hope they`ll keep past the end of January. Midfielders Gwion Edwards and Marcus Maddison, who are both nearing 10 goals each this season, have been in impressive form and will no doubt have their admirers as well.

It certainly looks like it could be an interesting time in the transfer market in January but if Posh could hold on to those trio of players while getting rid of more excess and replacing them with better quality, then it would be a very good transfer window.

Should that not happen, then only time will tell if any transfer business was successful.
