Peterborough United have finally captured Bristol Rovers right-back Michael Smith following further discussions between the two clubs.
The deal looked to be off yesterday when Rovers confirmed that Smith had returned to the club to train again. A fee had originally been agreed between the two clubs but the payment terms were the sticking point and things looked to be off when the player returned to Rovers.
However, the clubs continued to discuss things and thankfully, Smith has now signed a three-year deal which was announced by Darragh MacAnthony this morning: “Delighted to announce the signing of Michael Smith from @Official_BRFC on a 3 year deal. A tremendous RB & another good addition to Posh!”
Smith has been recovering from a knee injury but is back in full training and will join up with Posh today and should feature in the pre-season match tomorrow against Brighton and Hove Albion at London Road. He will wear the number two shirt.
The 25-year-old was relieved to finally get things sorted out as he said to the official Posh website: “It feels like it has been going on for ages, so I am really pleased that everything is now sorted and I am a Peterborough United player.
“Everybody knows what a good club Peterborough is and the club’s ambition of getting back into the Championship. After a difficult season last year, it would be great to be involved in a promotion push and I can’t wait to get started.”
