Sky Bet League One match preview between the Magpies and the Posh.

Notts County -Vs- Peterborough United
Venue: Meadow Lane
Date: 10th August, 2013
Kick-off: 3:00pm

Notts County Away

It`s the first home League game of the season for Notts County and after suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United in the opening day fixture which also saw them lose a player to a red card after just 15 minutes of the match, they`ll want to start their home life on a much happier note.

The Magpies did win their Capital One Cup match in midweek against Fleetwood Town by the odd goal in a five goal thriller. However, they did have their second player of the season sent off!

Posh are unbeaten so far this season having beaten Swindon Town 1-0 on Saturday and then followed that up by thumping fellow League One side Colchester United 5-1.

Can Posh keep their winning run going or can County open up their account with a win? Will County finish with 11 men on the pitch for the first time this season?

HEAD TO HEAD

There have been 38 previous League meetings between these two sides and there is very little in it. County have won 12 matches with Posh having a slight edge with 14 wins with the other 12 matches ending in a draw.

The last time Posh played at Meadow Lane they came away with all 3 points thanks to a Charlie Lee thunderbolt.

TEAM NEWS

Notts County

After receiving two red cards in two matches, County have just one recognised central defender for the match against Posh. Gary Liddle is serving the second of a three-match ban following his sending off against the Blades while Manny Smith is serving a one-match ban after receiving two yellow cards against Fleetwood.

Hayden Hollis is out injured with a knee injury which just leaves Dean Leacock as the only central defender available for selection to manager Chris Kiwomya.

Youngsters Callum McGregor and Greg Tempest both impressed in the win in midweek and may have forced their way into the thoughts of Kiwomya.

Former Posh player Andre Boucaud [pictured below] is looking forward to playing against the team that gave him his first chance at first team action and has nothing but praise for the club but he is hoping to show the Posh fans how he has developed since they saw him as a raw teenager.

Summer signing Mark Fotheringham said confidence is high in the County camp and they believe they can they can beat anyone and take maximum points against Posh.

Peterborough United

Posh boss Darren Ferguson is expected to name the same side for the third match running. He has no new injury worries to be concerned about although it is now public knowledge about midfielder Nathaniel Mendez-Laing`s fitness problems!

Young striker Jaanai Gordon impressed in the midweek reserves match when hitting a hat-trick and is now competing with fellow striker Emile Sinclair for the main strikers spot on the subs bench.

Jaanai Gordon

All the players need to be on top of their game otherwise others will jump at the chance to take their place and it is a situation Fergie is happy with as it offers good competition within his squad.

Vital Posh predicts the starting line-up will be:

Midfield Diamond

HOTSHOTS

Magpies

2 – Showunmi; 1 – Haynes; 1 – McGregor

Posh

2 – Lee Tomlin; 1 – Britt Assombalonga; 1 – Tyrone Barnett

REFEREE

Rookie referee Scott Duncan from Newcastle takes charge of his first ever Posh match and is only in his second season of refereeing in the English Football League.

He will be assisted by Simon Brown and Mark Howes.

The fourth official is Geoff Law.

PREDICTION

If Posh can produce the form they were in for the final thirty minutes of the Colchester match on Tuesday night then Posh should comfortably win the game but it will be a tough game.

There won`t be much in this one as County will want to start their home League campaign on a high note but Posh will hopefully sneak the win. There again, after Posh hit 5 goals in mid-week, they`ll probably fail to score!

Posh to win: 0 – 1.
