In conditions that left a lot to be desired Posh took all three points at Brisbane Road last night.

The win lifted them into second place ahead of MK Dons who had the misfortune to see their fixture, at Northampton, abandoned at half time due to the inclement weather.

For the trip to East London, the recalled Chris Westwood was given a centre back berth alongside Charlie Lee with the unfortunate Shane Blackett dropping to the bench. Top scorer Craig Mackail-Smith also found himself sat on the bench with Sergio Torres being given a rare start.

With only six minutes gone, it was Posh who took an early lead with the dependable Chris Whelpdale rising to head Paul Coutts` cross past Jones in the Orient goal. However, it should be stated that Orient had exerted some good early pressure with both Church and McGleish having had efforts cleared off the line before Whelpdale scored.

Posh doubled their lead in the 12th minute when Sergio Torres got on the score sheet and you began to think it would be a comfortable night.

However, despite having already lost eight games at home already this season, Orient mounted a mini-fight back when the lively McGleish pulled one back from the penalty spot. But when a Russell Martin header put us 3-1 up deep into first half stoppage time, it did look as if Posh had weathered the storm.

But not so!

In he second half Orient fought back tenaciously and just before the hour mark that man McGleish scored his second of the night firing home from a narrow angle. As Orient went for that equaliser it was left to Joe Lewis to keep us ahead with a fine save in the dying minutes.

Three points, a fine game played in dreadful conditions.
