The Manager Speaks

Bees boss Uwe Rosler was upbeat despite seeing his side bow out of the Football League Trophy at London Road. The match with Posh saw the return to competitive action for a couple of players and also a debut to young French fullback Raphael Calvet.

“We missed Jake and Dougie a lot. In fact, we have missed our whole left side since the third game of the season.” said Rosler.

“Jake is a different full back to Tony Craig and in home games we have missed the attacking qualities he gives us. I didn’t want him to play 90 minutes, but I kept him on and he looked like the Jake of old.

“Dougie gives us a physical presence, and we have also missed his leadership out there. He needs to get used to the players around him now, as he’s not played with the likes of George Saville much.”

Fullback Calvet was the unfortunate defender that conceded the penalty which gave Posh their 2-0 lead but Rosler felt he made an excellent challenge: “I have seen it back on DVD and it is clear he plays the ball. He is very low as it was his first game, and he did very well against one of the best teams in the league, but it ended badly for him. I feel sorry for the lad, the ref go that one wrong.”

Cardiff City loanee Ben Nugent came on as a sub in the second half and gave the Bees a lifeline with 10 minutes left when heading in the Bees goal.

“Ben deserved a game, or to get on in a game. He has worked hard to get his fitness back and did very well. He has pushed very hard and gives us more options.” commented Rosler.

“Overall, I was very pleased with our performance. Peterborough had nine players out there who played their last game, so they were taking it very seriously, and it would have been easy for us to give up at 2-0 down.”
