Peterborough United aim to complete the loan signing of a central defender by the end of this week.

With the departure of Ryan Bennett to Norwich City, Posh only have one recognised central defender in Gaby Zakuani and are keen to bolster their squad for the remainder of the season.

Posh have recently signed central defender Shaun Brisley from Macclesfield, but he is finding the going tough and won’t be considered for selection. Posh boss Darren Ferguson added: ‘Shaun is finding it a little bit difficult to adapt to the tempo of the training we do, but that can happen sometimes.’

Ferguson is keeping quiet as to who the player is that he’s interested in bringing in on loan but he did confirm it all depends on players coming back safely from international duty.

‘It’s a matter of waiting on a couple of internationals at the club we`re dealing with getting through their games this week. But I`m not going to panic about it. Craig Alcock will be fit and can play at centre-back if required.’

Fergie continued: ‘If it’s going to happen, it won`t be until Thursday at the earliest.’
