Peterborough United are trying to negotiate terms with their former full-back Craig Alcock.
The full-back left Posh at the end of last season but Posh have now offered him a new contract after regular right-back Mark Little rejected a new contract at the club.
Alcock was outstanding in his first season at Posh but with Darren Ferguson preferring a marauding right-back, Alcock often played second fiddle to Little. With Little now gone, Posh need to bring in a new full-back which may well tempt Alcock to return knowing that he should be the regular right-back.
Alcock is expected to decide by the end of the week as to whether to accept the new contract or not.
Posh director of football Barry Fry said: “We have made Craig an offer and he`s promised to make a decision soon. We made Craig an offer last summer which he turned down and we did expect to lose him when his current deal expired but the club that was most interested in him has not made him an acceptable offer so we spoke with him again and he`s interested in re-signing, especially as the manager who signed him has just committed himself to the club for another three years.
“Craig would be an excellent signing for us. He can play anywhere across the back four.”
Posh are also looking into the possibility of bringing in a right-back on a season long loan from a Premiership side wh0 will provide competition in defence.
