The man in charge of the Sky Bet EFL League One match between Scunthorpe United and Peterborough United is MARK HEYWOOD.

Both teams bemused by referee Mark Heywood for sending off Jermaine Anderson

It`s time for the ‘bottle-gate` referee again!

Referee Mark Heywood sent off Posh midfielder Jermaine Anderson, on the advice of the fourth official back in 2015 when Walsall were the visitors to the ABAX Stadium.

On a very warm Saturday afternoon, there was a break in play to allow an injured player to receive treatment. While that was going on, virtually all the players from both sides went to get a drink.

The incident with Anderson happened when the players returned to the field of play. Anderson was walking back on the pitch when he threw the water bottle he was drinking from back towards the Posh bench. Unfortunately his throw was slightly off and the bottle ended up in the middle of some Posh supporters sat next to the subs bench.

The fourth official saw where the bottle had landed and seemingly wanted to make a name for himself by instructing referee Heywood to send Anderson off!!

Posh were losing one-nil when Anderson was sent off six minutes from time but that didn`t stop Posh from picking up a point when Michael Bostwick blasted in the equaliser from the penalty spot.

That match was one of seven Posh matches Heywood has officiated. It should`ve been eight times but he dropped out of the televised match against Bolton Wanderers through injury, which Posh won one-nil thanks to a rare Michael Smith goal.

Posh have won three, drawn two and lost two of the matches refereed by Heywood. They are unbeaten in their last three matches with the last two ending in a five-one victory over Blackpool at the end of the 2015/16 season and a two-nil victory over the MK Dons at the start of last season. Five yellow cards were dished out in that last match against the Dons with Posh picking up just one card which went to striker Paul Taylor.

Scunthorpe have only had Heywood four times with the last time coming back in the 2014/15 season! The Iron lost four-nil that time and had defender Miguel Llera sent off six minutes from time. Apart from that red card, four yellows were shown during the game with the Blades picking up just one of those cards.

So far this season, Heywood has officiated 11 matches issuing 41 yellow cards and 2 red cards.

The last match Heywood officiated was on Saturday in the one-all draw between the League One basement side Plymouth Argyle and the leaders Shrewsbury Town. Just one yellow card was shown during the game which went to the visitors.

The assistant referees for the Iron v Posh clash are Stephen Wade and Peter Gooch. The fourth official is Christopher Ward.
