What are the Peterborough United manager and players saying about the upcoming match at Bristol City?

Posh have had a decent start to the season but Posh boss Darren Ferguson believes his side can do even better: “I know we can do more. We need to be more ruthless as a team by keeping more clean sheets and improving our chances to goals ratio.

“We can also play much better at home than we have done in the league so far and we cannot afford to continue making individual mistakes as they are proving costly.

“We are into a tough month of games and need to ensure we keep picking up points consistently.

“Bristol City is a big club and there are big expectations there. They have some very good players for this level including some big threats in attack. We need to start the game in the right way and quieten the home crowd.

“I`m fully aware of the fact that a win on Saturday would take us 13 points clear of Bristol City, something which would be no mean feat after only eight league games.

“That is a motivation in itself to get a result against a team I expect to be challenging for promotion.

“They may have started slowly but I`m sure they will be there or thereabouts by the end of the season.”

Britt Assombalonga and Ty Barnett

One partnership Fergie is hoping will continue to blossom and improve is his current strike force of transfer listed Tyrone Barnett and Britt Assombalonga and he certainly hopes they will continue their impressive form against the Robins as he said: “It is not always easy for strikers to form a new partnership, but they have really hit the ground running as a pair.

“They are scoring goals, making goals and looking a real threat.

“I couldn`t have asked any more of Britt after arriving so close to the start of the season.

“He got straight into the goalscoring groove and has not let his price tag get to him.

“And it is great to see the smile back on Ty`s face again.

“I always give opportunities to players who can show me the right attitude and Ty did that.

“He has taken his chance very well at the start of this season. He is fully fit again, looking sharp and playing with a lot of energy.

“I expect them to continue to impress as their partnership develops.”

Craig Alcock v Colchester

Another player having a good season is defender Craig Alcock [pictured above] and he has been challenged to get forward more which he`ll hopefully do against Bristol: “The gaffer has told me that contributing more in attack is something I need to add to my game to get to the next level.

“I had a couple of assists at Colchester in the Capital One Cup earlier in the season and created a couple of chances at Crewe last Saturday.

“Regardless of whether I`m playing at right-back or left-back, I need to keep doing that.

“There are shades of my first season here being back at left-back, but it is a position I`m quite happy to play in.

“Whatever is best for the team suits me. I just want to help us get results and keep ourselves at the right end of the table.

“It was disappointing not to come away from Crewe with a win. They only had three shots all afternoon and two of them ended up in the back of our net.

“That`s something we have to address both individually and collectively. Concentration is the key – we have to be switched on for the whole 90 minutes.

“We`re going to Bristol looking for a good result. It is important for our momentum to get something there.”

Mark Little v Crewe

With Alcock switching to left-back, it has meant the return of Mark Little [pictured above] at right back. The defender, who left Posh at the end of last season to search for a Championship side only to return when no one took him on, is determined to gain revenge over Bristol City following their double over Posh last season as he said: “Most people seem to think they will be up there come the end of the season and I would go along with that. I rate them highly.

“We`ve had a lot of tough games against Bristol City in the last few years and I`m sure that will be the case again.

“They got the better of us a couple of times last season so we definitely owe them one.

“We want to get back to winning after not doing that in the last couple of matches.

“We played really well at Crewe last Saturday though. We dominated the majority of the game but a couple of errors cost us.

“I don`t think it is even a blip really. We just need a bit of luck on our side.”
